Hot Wheels Hot Heap – 1968 Original Sweet 16
In my collection, I have very few redlines. At this moment, 15 to be exact. I tend to purchase a redline every year for my birthday or when we are out of town to sort of mark the occasion and create a memory within itself. Most of the redines that I have are considered to the collecting community as beaters or junkers but I find interest in their condition and am glad to give them a new home.
This Hot Heap for example was purchased in the 4/15/2012 at Angela’s Attic in South Beloit, IL. I had taken some money that I got for my birthday the day we stopped in. The Hot Heap was sitting in the case and as the saying goes, the rest is history. 🙂
A little Hot Heap Casting History
The Hot Wheels Hot Heap was released in 1968 and was part of the ‘Sweet 16’. Produced in 2 plants – United States and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong casting has the engine set back against the firewall while the US version was set forward a bit. The Hot Heap casting in the images below is of US origin.
